Bio
Irene Pinole was born in January of 1928. For the first eleven years of her life she lived with her parents. After her father past away Irene's mother could no longer care for her and she was sent to Sonoma State hospital to live. Irene spent most of her adolescents and young adult life in state hospitals in Northern California. When Irene was about 45 she was enrolled in Short Center art programs in Sacramento where she began taking art classes. Over the past three decades Irene has become one of the more dedicated and accomplished artists at the Short Center. Irene excells in textiles and is particularly talented in watercolor painting. At the age of 76 she still paints and sews daily. In May of 2004 Sacramento Bee writer Cynthia Hubert wrote a feature article on Irene's life which helped reunite Irene with her long lost sister. The articles title was The Art of Survival and can be accessed through the Sac Bee archives.
